Japanese multi-system operator (MSO) Jupiter Telecommunications (J-COM) has selected US-based Everstream to deploy its DataSuite software to collect and warehouse data from its interactive platforms, particularly from its wide deployment of Concurrent’s MediaHawk VOD system. The Japanese operator will use the Everstream solution to measure consumption, revenue, and video asset inventory across all their markets, and to compare key performance metrics such as subscriber activity and quality across their markets.
J-COM, the largest hybrid fibre-coaxial (HFC) cable MSO in Japan, launched commercial on-demand services in January 2005 based upon the MediaHawk system. The VoD service has experienced extraordinary growth, expanding to support more than 700,000 digital subscribers across its operating regions. At the end of March 2006 J-COM and its affiliates had more than 2.15 million subscribers, up 12.2% on the previous year. J-COM TV had 1.8 million subscribers, including 719,100 digital TV customers. J-COM had 931,600 broadband internet subscribers through J-COM NET and 1.01 million telephony customers. The group’s combined revenue generating units (RGUs) stood at nearly 3.75 million, up 531,800 from the previous year.
