Telecoms Minister fired over bribery allegations

Bolivia’s President Evo Morales has fired deputy Telecoms Minister Jorge Estrella and initiated criminal proceedings against him following accusations that he demanded a USD100,000 bribe from telco Startel, according to BNamericas quoting local press reports. Startel claims that Estrella asked for the money in relation to the award of a rural telephony concession. Estrella denies the accusation.
