Entel Chile to spend over USD200 million in 2006

According to local newspaper Diario Financiero, Entel Chile plans to invest between USD200 million and USD250million in 2006. Of the planned expenditure, 65%-75% has been earmarked for Entel PCS, its mobile telephony business, as it seeks to increase its wireless customer base from 4.1 million at the end of 2005 to 4.5 million by the end of 2006. Speaking to the newspaper, Entel general manager Richard Buchi predicted revenue in the region of CLP850 billion (USD1.7 billion) for 2006, representing 10% growth year-on-year. The sale of subsidiary Americatel USA – to be completed in June 2006 – is likely to generate a one-off net income gain of USD26 million.
