America Movil-backed cellco Smartcom has won the 25Mhz of 800Mhz spectrum that Movistar Chile had sought to sell as a condition laid down by anti-monopoly agency TDLC, according to BNamericas. Movistar did not confirm the number of bids eventually submitted, but executives of Chilean triple-play provider VTR, Smartcom and locally owned operator Telsur were reported to be present at the event. Movistar declined to reveal the amount of the winning bid, but said Smartcom met the USD30 million minimum price. Smartcom is expected to use the additional frequencies in rural areas where it will target low-income segments.
