Si.Mobil to take over network assets of struggling Vega

21 Apr 2006

Western Wireless International Slovenia, the eastern European country’s smallest mobile network operator, has accepted an offer to buy part of its GSM network from domestic rival, Mobilkom Austria subsidiary Si.Mobil. The US-owned company, which uses the brand name Vega, had struggled to make a dent in the Slovenian market, and had only 30,000 GSM subscribers at the end of 2005. Si.Mobil will acquire 135 base stations to bolster its coverage and service as part of its campaign to make up ground on the market leader, Telecom Slovenia’s mobile arm Mobitel, which accounts for over 75% of subscribers.
