Cyprus-based cellco Areeba is expected to launch a 3G-driven mobile TV service this summer, in an effort to boost its market share, currently around 10%. Areeba launched 3G services in December 2004, and claims to have signed up around a thousand users of the technology to date, with coverage of all major towns on the island. The company launched a high speed mobile datacard for laptop and notebook PC users in September 2005. It estimates its current total subscriber base at 80,000, up from 65,000 at the end of 2005. Market leader Cytamobile-Vodafone had around 670,000 subscribers at end-year.
