UPC reaches VoIP landmark

The pan-European cable operator UPC says it now has more than one million internet telephony customers across its operations in Austria, France, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania and Switzerland. The number of VoIP subscribers has doubled over the past 15 months, UPC claims. The firm, which has cable networks passing 18 million homes in Europe, intends to add VoIP operations in Ireland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia by the end of this year.
