Subs growth helps Vimpelcom results

The Russian cellco Vimpelcom says strong subscriber growth helped boost both revenues and profits in the final three months of 2005. Fourth quarter operating revenue rose from USD624.9 million to USD910.4 million year-on-year, while net profit reached USD151.8 million, from USD83.7 million in the same period of 2004. The firm reported 45.43 million subscribers at the end of 2005, up from 26.58 million twelve months before, with 43.1 million of these in Russia and the remainder spread across its operations in Kazakhstan, the Ukraine, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.
