FT loses close to a million fixed line subs, reports Arcep

18 Apr 2006

According to the latest figures published by the French telecoms regulator Arcep, almost a million French householders have cancelled their subscription with incumbent France Télécom (FT) in favour of an alternative service provider. As of 31 March this year, 950,000 customers had taken advantage of full local loop unbundling (LLU) to switch from the former monopoly, while a further 2.2 million people had partially unbundled lines (meaning that subscribers of alternative operators still have to pay FT a flat rental fee for their monthly line rental). Full LLU lines now account for 30% of total unbundled lines, up from 7% just a year ago. In addition, Arcep reports that 54% of installed lines are now capable of being unbundled.
