GamTel to deploy 290,000 fixed-wireless lines

Fixed line operator Gambia Telecommunications Company (GamTel) is aiming to deploy at least 290,000 fixed-wireless telephone lines across the country, reports allAfrica.com quoting Mrs Neneh Macdouall-Gaye, the Secretary of State for Communication, Information and Technology. GamTel’s fixed-wireless service was piloted in July 2005 under the brand name ‘Jamano’, and according to Macdoual-Gaye, the pilot project resulted in the deployment of 10,000 lines in Greater Banjul, the Soma area of the Lower River Division and the Basse area of the Upper River Division.
