Triple play on way from CVG and cablecos

10 Apr 2006

According to Agencia Bolivariana de Noticias, Venezuelan state-run telco CVG Telecom and the country’s cable TV operator association Asocables are due to sign an agreement which will allow Venezuela’s cablecos to offer triple play services. The move follows fears publicly expressed by Asocables that CANTV would begin to invest heavily in the cable sector should – as seems likely – CANTV come under the control of América Móvil. Asocables has also hit the headlines after asking Venezuela President Hugo Chávez to take measures to protect the cable industry, accusing CANTV and other telcos of not offering broadband or even basic telephony services to rural areas.
