Russia’s largest cellular operator MTS has acquired stakes in three regional telcos and upped its interest in another. According to a report from Prime Tass, the firm has bought 100% of Krasnoyarsk-based Krasintel, which provides IP telephony services, 50% of Telecom-Service, which supplies and repairs handsets, and 50% of Uraltel-Plus, a mobile and satellite service provider based in Ekaterinburg. MTS has also increased its stake in Tomsk-based firm Shchittelecom from 1% to 100%. MTS has over 45 million subscribers across Russia.
Meanwhile, the country’s third largest cellular operator, MegaFon, has expanded its coverage to Norilsk industrial area and the Taimyr Autonomous District. The network, which includes the cities of Norilsk, Talnakh, Dudinka and Kaiyerkan, was supplied by Huawei Technologies.
