Sibirtelecom expands CDMA2000 coverage to Tomsk

Russian regional mobile and fixed line operator Sibirtelecom has launched CDMA2000 1x services under the Wellcom brand in the Tomsk region, reports Cellular News. The Tomsk network is being built out by China’s Huawei Technologies and had a capacity of 30,000 at launch, expected to be expanded to 100,000 by the end of the year. Sibirtelecom’s total mobile subscriber base in the Siberian Federal District stood at 2.078 million at the end of 2005, via wholly owned subsidiaries Baikalvestcom, Ulan-Udenskaya Sotovaya Svyaz, Yeniseitelecom, Sayantelecom, and Stek GSM. Yeniseitelecom launched CDMA2000 1x services in Krasnoyarsk last November.
