StarHub to launch 100Mbps cable service by Q3

31 Mar 2006

Singaporean broadband service provider StarHub is planning to offer its cable customers a 100Mbps connection by the third quarter of this year, a significant increase on its current top-of-the-range 30Mbps service. The operator is upgrading its HFC cable network to a DOCSIS 3.0-compatible architecture, and looking to best incumbent SingTel, whose own high-end package is only 25Mbps. StarHub plans to further increase broadband speeds up to 1Gbps in the next few years when ‘channel bonding’ (which is part of the DOCSIS 3.0 standard) becomes viable.
