PTC demos HSDPA ahead of commercial launch

31 Mar 2006

Polish cellco Polska Telefonia Cyfrowa (PTC) has demonstrated HSDPA services at a trade fair in Lodz, revealing that it hopes to launch the platform commercially ‘in the very near future’. PTC’s 3G network currently has coverage of Warsaw and several dozen nearby towns, Lodz, Poznan and Wroclaw. Other cities such as Krakow, Gdansk and Silesia are next for rollout, with Torun, Bydgoszcz and Lublin to follow later in the year. By the end of this year coverage is expected to have reached eight million, in compliance with the company’s licence obligation to reach 20% of the population.
