Cellcos gear up for competition

Vietnam’s mobile operators are cutting charges in a race to hold onto their existing customers and sign up new ones, as two new players – state-owned giant EVN Telecom and Hanoi Telecom – are gearing up to enter the market with CDMA networks. Existing providers have had to camouflage their price reductions as ‘special promotions’ while they await approval from the regulator. The two new providers announced they would introduce a very competitive tariff rate when they launch.
