Partner deploys HSDPA network

29 Mar 2006

Israeli cellco Partner Communications says that Nortel Networks has completed the deployment of a high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) network capable of offering potential download speeds of up to 3.6Mbps. Partner, which trades under the Orange brand name, will offer HSDPA to its business customers initially, with residential services to follow. ‘HSDPA represents an evolution of UMTS technology,’ said a Partner spokesperson. ‘Partner will be the first to launch HSDPA services in Israel and is among the first operators to launch HSDPA services anywhere in the world.’ Partner launched W-CDMA services in December 2004 and now has 3G coverage of more than 90% of the population. It has been trialling HSDPA services over its network in Tel Aviv since May 2005.
