SeCom outlines Arsat, digital TV as 2006 priorities

28 Mar 2006

Argentinean regulator SeCom has announced that its priorities for 2006 will be the proposed satellite venture ArSat and the development of digital television, according to communications undersecretary Guillermo Moreno. The ArSat project is expected to cost ARS90 billion (USD29.2 billion) while the development of digital TV services will require new regulation. The government is expected to define which standard it will use for the services in the next couple of weeks. Moreno also said that the so called ‘triple play’ services will need new specific regulation, although this is not on the government’s agenda.
