Viettel to corporatise

21 Mar 2006

Vietnam’s second largest telco Viettel Corporation is set to be corporatised this year, with the Ministry of Defence’s Vietnam Military Electronics and Telecommunications Corporation having received formal approval from the government last week. Under the plan, the state will retain 51% of the company while the remainder will be sold to strategic investors and company staff. The corporatisation procedure is expected to start later this year and be completed sometime in 2007. All of Viettel’s affiliates will also be equitised, apart from the Viettel Transmission Network Company.
