Eagle won’t fly 'til March 2007

21 Mar 2006

The Albania telecoms regulator has announced its decision to postpone the launch of Eagle Mobile, the mobile arm of fixed line incumbent Albtelecom, until March 2007. Eagle Mobile was awarded Albania’s third GSM licence two years ago, as part of a broader plan to increase the appeal of Albtelecom, prior to its sell-off to overseas investors. In October 2005, however, the government suspended the sale of a 76% stake in Albtelecom to a consortium made up of Turk Telecom and Calik Enerji, on the basis that the offer was ‘uncompetitive’.
