Swedish telecoms company Swedtel and Colombia’s largest cable operator Cablecentro have announced plans to form a consortium to bid for a 50% stake in Telecom Colombia and is currently in the process of negotiating with two US investment banks and a European bank to join the partnership. Swedtel has a history with Colombia, having been selected in 2004 to implement a network planning and optimisation initiative to aid in the creation of its Bogota local telephony unit Capitel. The Colombian government is scheduled to release the final bidding terms and conditions this week.
