NetUno to take on CANTV nationwide

20 Mar 2006

Venezuelan fixed line operator NetUno has expanded its service coverage area to 70% of the country’s population, according to BNamericas quoting online tech portal La Red. The telco, which provides cable, broadband, backbone and telephony services, says it is now in a position to compete with local telephony incumbent CANTV. In urban areas NetUno has forged alliances with other operators to offer local, long-distance and international calls to residential and corporate users. In rural regions the company has built community calling centres in partnership with local businesses. NetUno was founded in 1996 and won a local telephony licence in 2001. It offers residential cable TV services and provides broadband cable access, as well as dedicated connections to more than 1,000 SMEs and corporates based on frame relay, ATM and IP platforms.
