Alcatel promotes IPTV for rural Filipinos

17 Mar 2006

Alcatel Asia is championing IPTV in the Philippines to solve the problem of delivering internet and broadband-related services in underserved rural areas. According to Alcatel Asia Pacific Director for Innovation and Market Development Geof Heydon, IPTV, which uses existing TV sets as communication equipment for voice, internet and video services, could solve the problem of providing high speed access and VoD in those areas. The service requires high bandwidth infrastructure and Alcatel predicts that the first such services will appear within the next two years as carriers start to upgrade their networks to broadband.
