16 Mar 2006

Cameroon Telecommunications (Camtel) and United Telecom Georgia (UTG), the incumbent operators in Cameroon and Georgia are set to be privatised in the near future, according to the two countries’ governments. Cameroon plans to sell 51% of Camtel – which had 110,000 fixed line customers at the end of 2005 – as part of its liberalisation policy, while Georgia wants to dispose of 65% of UTG which claimed 350,000 customers at the same date.
