Cellcos reimburse clients

16 Mar 2006

Argentina’s mobile operators have begun to return ARS1 billion (USD324.8 million) to customers after the regulator SeCom ordered them to refund revenues that were generated from unauthorised rates hikes dating back as far as 2000. The cellcos charged users 1% extra to cover the cost of contributions to the universal service fund. Movistar, Telecom Personal and CTI Movil have already started reimbursing their customers, with trunking operator Nextel planning to start soon. Operators must either return the money to each user or apply discounts to future bills.
