Hutch trials HSDPA, pencils in 2H06 launch

15 Mar 2006

Mobile operator Hutchison 3G UK (H3G UK) says it has successfully completed a trial of High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) over Nokia and NEC infrastructure in Maidenhead, south east England. The trial, which has been running for the last four months, delivered voice and data at speeds of up to 1.4Mbps, over three times faster than current 3G speeds and more than forty times faster than GPRS. The trial will be extended to selected urban areas in May ahead of the planned launch of commercial nationwide HSDPA services in the second half of 2006.
