Telewest launches HDTV

13 Mar 2006

UK cable operator ntl Incorporated has launched the country’s first high definition television (HDTV) service via its wholly owned subsidiary Telewest. The service is limited at the moment to shows made by BBC Worldwide and users must have an HD-ready TV and a Telewest TVDrive premium set-top box to receive the broadcasts. Telewest merged with rival cableco ntl to form triple-play powerhouse ntl Incorporated earlier this month. It hopes that its early adoption of HDTV will give a head start on rival triple-play provider BSkyB by making its bundled products more attractive to users.
