Singapore Telecommunications’ (SingTel’s) Australian unit Optus is rumoured to be holding talks with its network partner in Australia, Vodafone, about plans to buy the pair’s infrastructure. Optus is reported to be conducting due diligence on the company with a view to buying out Vodafone’s network assets and remove a competitor, although Vodafone has since denied this. The pair are currently deploying a 3G network in Australia at a cost of AUD700 million.
