Regulator nullifies results of GSM auction

8 Mar 2006

Brazilian telecoms regulator Anatel has nullified its auction of GSM licences after the sole bidder, local phone company Unicel, was disqualified for not depositing the requisite 10% guarantee with its bid for the 15-year São Paulo licence. The spectrum on offer covered the states of Alagoas, Ceará, Paraíba, Pernambuco, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte and São Paulo. Unicel plans to appeal the decision.
