Government considering sale

8 Mar 2006

The South African government has hinted that it may consider selling off its remaining 37.7% stake in former monopoly PTO Telkom if it makes business sense. According to local newspaper Business Report, Mpetjane Lekgoro, who is chairman of the parliamentary committee on communications, says a sale could take place if it is in the interests of consumers. He commented: “If the deal makes good business sense and (the government) is confident that matters of pricing and universal coverage will go right … then that will be a good time to sell.”
