Siemens to build VDSL network for DT

According to local press reports, Deutsche Telekom (DT) has contracted equipment supplier Siemens to build a VDSL network in Germany. The telco hopes to have the super high speed network in place by 2008 and will use part of it to broadcast high-definition television (HDTV). It has pledged to invest EUR3 billion to build out the network, EUR500 million of which will be spent by the middle of this year. Both Siemens and DT have declined to provide any further details on the deal.
