Mobile operator DiGi Telecommunications and pay-TV provider MiTV Corp will be declared winners of Malaysia’s 3G licence auction next week, according to the Malay Mail. Neither of the companies has been informed officially, but the paper claims the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has submitted their names to the Telecommunication Ministry for the required paperwork to be completed ahead of an official announcement. In November 2005 the MCMC reported it had received applications for UMTS spectrum from three companies, namely DiGi, MiTV and domestic telco TIMEdotCom. A confident DiGi has already signed a letter of intent with vendor Siemens to deploy its 3G network if it is successful in its application. Currently only Maxis Communications and Telekom Malaysia subsidiary Celcom hold 3G concessions.
