Vimpelcom gets backing with complaint

1 Mar 2006

The director of Russia’s Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) has backed mobile operator Vimpelcom’s bid to win more spectrum in the far east of the country. According to Prime Tass, Igor Artemyev claims that the State Radio Frequency Commission is wrong to be withholding frequencies from Vimpelcom when it is planning to give licences to other operators. Vimpelcom offers services across much of Russia, but has licences to provide services in just four of the Far East District’s 13 regions. The operator filed a complaint with FAS last year about the Frequency Commission’s refusal to offer spectrum.
