Reorganisation will see up to 3,000 staff and 27,000 customers leave C&W

Cable & Wireless has announced plans to shift the focus of its UK business from SMEs to larger corporate clients and public institutions, reducing its customer base from 30,000 to around 3,000 in the process. The changes will see 350 UK staff losing their jobs in the current 2005/06 fiscal year, with between 1,650 and 2,650 further redundancies to be made over the next four to five years. The changes are part of a wide ranging restructuring of C&W’s business announced earlier this month. Under the reorganisation CEO Francesco Caio will leave C&W in April following a board decision to remove the position as it creates two self-contained units to run the UK and international operations separately.
