Celltel Lanka awarded new 1800MHz licence

Sri Lanka’s second largest mobile operator Celltel Lanka has extended its cellular licence until 2018 at a cost of USD5 million. The licence award included an allocation of 1800MHz GSM spectrum to add to Celltel’s current GSM-900 frequency. The company had 579,430 subscribers at end-2005, around 19% of the market.
