Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) ended 2005 with 5.4 million fixed lines in service, despite expansion being hampered by an earthquake which hit some parts of the country in October. PTCL added 175,000 new wireline customers in the second half of 2005, including 145,000 wireless in the local loop (WiLL) users. The telco said it increased the capacity of its network by 920,000 lines during the period, 750,000 of which were WiLL lines. It plans to put increased emphasis on its WiLL services over the course of 2006. PTCL also confirmed that it is at an ‘advanced stage’ of preparation for its forthcoming privatisation.
