MTS to unite nine subsidiaries

Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), the largest mobile operator in Russia and the CIS, is planning to integrate nine of its wholly owned subsidiaries, after shareholders approved the move at a meeting last week. MTS intends to fully consolidate the following regional GSM operators: OAO Gorizont-RT (Yakutia), ZAO Uraltel (Ekaterinburg), ZAO Far Eastern Cellular Systems (Khabarovsk), ZAO Siberian Cellular Systems (Novosibirsk), OAO TAIF-Telcom (Tatarstan), ZAO Tomsk Cellular Communication, ZAO SibChallenge (Krasnoyarsk), ZAO BM Telecom (Bashkortostan) and ZAO MTS-RTK (Moscow). MTS and its subsidiaries provide mobile services to over 59.5 million users, with a licence footprint covering a population of 238.2 million in 86 out of 88 regions in Russia, as well as Ukraine, Belarus, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan.
