Liberty Media backed cableco VTR is likely to bid in the forthcoming auction of 25MHz of Movistar frequencies, according to a report on Reuters. Bidding for the spectrum block will close on 7 April, with a winner expected to be announced on 21 April. If none of the offers are acceptable, the bandwidth will revert to the government. Telefonica-backed Movistar is the dominant player in the Chilean wireless market with 5.3 million customers at the end of 2005, followed by Entel with 4.1 million and Smartcom with 1.9 million.
