TME cleared of hiking interconnection fees

20 Feb 2006

Spanish cellco Telefónica Móviles Espana (TME) has been cleared of overcharging its rival Amena for interconnection, after telecoms regulator the CMT withdrew a previous ruling. The regulator ruled that TME did not abuse its dominant position to overcharge Amena for interconnection, and instead found that it had actually agreed on the tariffs with the smaller operator, according to local paper Expansion. Amena, which was seeking EUR40 million (USD48 million) in compensation from TME, will appeal against the ruling.
