DoCoMo inks videostreaming deal with RealNetworks

20 Feb 2006

NTT DoCoMo has signed a memorandum of understanding with RealNetworks to co-develop software for mobile videostreaming services to users’ phones. DoCoMo is looking to strengthen its services in the video download market. Under the deal, RealNetworks, a video and music software developer, will look to bring forward an open software environment enabling content providers to use proprietary multi-format servers to stream video content to DoCoMo handsets.

In a related development, Nokia says it has started shipping a 3G phone to DoCoMo. Marketed as the FOMA NM850iG, the new phone will be commercially available from 24 February. In May 2005 the two companies announced plans to launch a Nokia 3G phone by the end of that year.
