Brazil will be home to 100 million mobile phone users by the end of 2006, predicts Oi president Luiz Eduardo Falco, although he added that once this ‘symbolic number’ is reached, ‘further growth is unlikely’. Telemar’s mobile arm had 10.3 million mobile users at the end of 2005, thanks to the net addition of three million users during the year. The cellco operates in 16 states in the north, northeast and southwest of Brazil. It recorded 51% growth in 2005, beating its own target of 31.4% quite convincingly.
