Softbank, Japan Telecom to merge broadband operations

16 Feb 2006

Japanese broadband services providers Softbank Corp and Japan Telecom have announced plans to merge their high speed internet access operations from 1 April 2006. The move comes as both sides look to cut costs and boost efficiency. A name for the combined operation will be announced closer to the launch date, but it is understood that Japan Telecom will be providing Softbank’s corporate broadband services. Softbank acquired 100% of the outstanding shares of Japan Telecom in July 2004 and since then, have worked side by side in the domestic broadband market.
