Mobistar and Telenet agree on Wi-Fi; Telenet plans summer MVNO launch

16 Feb 2006

Belgian operator Mobistar has struck an agreement with cable operator and broadband provider Telenet giving it access to Telenet’s Wi-Fi network in Belgium, the company said in a statement. Mobistar plans to use the Wi-Fi network to expand its mobile data offerings and is mulling the launch of converged EDGE/W-CDMA/Wi-Fi services for laptop users.

In a separate story, Telenet has confirmed that it plans to launch MVNO wireless services by the summer. The telco signed an agreement in principle with Mobistar’s mobile rival BASE in May 2004, allowing it to use the cellco’s GSM network.
