Ministry announces plans to license Wi-Fi

16 Feb 2006

The Belarusian Ministry of Communications and Information (MoC) has introduced licensing for Wi-Fi networks in the 2.4GHz frequency band, revoking earlier rules dating back to July 1998 which exempted operators from needing permits to set up local radio networks for data transmission services. The changes have been put in place by S Bogdanov, the head of the Republic of Belarus State Inspection on Telecommunications, and take into account ITU recommendations in this area.
