First alternative telco to launch in second quarter

15 Feb 2006

Start-up telco Lightspeed Communications is planning to launch Bahrain’s first alternative fixed line service by the end of the second quarter of this year. Lightspeed is aiming to provide both business and residential services at cheaper rates than those offered by former monopoly Batelco, with fixed monthly charges for a range of bundled services, including VPNs and fixed line videocalling. Residential calls will be charged by the second instead of by larger units, and calls between Lightspeed subscribers will be free. Customers signing up to Lightspeed’s service will still require a telephone line to be installed by Batelco.
