NTT DoCoMo is teaming up with Japanese microchip developer Renesas Technology Corp and three other firms to jointly develop system chips for so-called ‘4G’ mobile phones. NTT DoCoMo says it is aiming to start commercial production of the new handsets by autumn 2007. The other participants in the project are handset manufacturers Fujitsu Ltd, Mitsubishi Electric Corp and Sharp Corp. The JPY15 billion (USD127.3 million) developments costs will be shared by the five companies involved.
