Brasil Telecom tests UTStarcom’s fixed-wireless system

9 Feb 2006

Brazilian fixed line operator Brasil Telecom is conducting a pilot of UTStarcom’s fixed-mobile convergence solution as part of plans to introduce next-generation wireless services. According to BNamericas, the telco will conduct trials in the capital Brasilia to test the vendor’s new Continuity end-to-end system, based on its mSwitch Internet Protocol softswitch platform using a dual-mode Wi-Fi/GSM handset. The new network is designed to allow seamless interconnectivity and roaming between fixed and mobile networks, and Brasil Telecom hopes its implementation will help reduce churn in the competitive GSM market.
