Chinese equipment vendor Huawei has been named as the main supplier for P4’s 3G network. Under the first phase of the contract, valued at EUR150 million, Huawei will supply and install a fully equipped backbone network as well as base and mobile stations; the company has not yet revealed a planned commercial launch date. In the interim, P4 will provide services as a mobile virtual network operator and is negotiating access to the infrastructure of one of Poland’s three established mobile carriers. P4, backed by Icelandic equity fund Novator (70%) and Netia (30%), was awarded Poland’s fourth 3G license in May 2005.
