ICASA offers commercial satellite and cable broadcasting licences

7 Feb 2006

ICASA is inviting applications for commercial satellite and cable subscription broadcasting licences from both new entrants to the market and existing players. Existing broadcasters, including MultiChoice, WorldSpace, DMX Africa, Deukom, Sentech, Orbicom and Comutanet, are being asked to apply for new subscription-based broadcasting licences under the terms of the Subscription Broadcasting Services Regulations, which were issued in November 2005. New licences will run for eight years for subscription based TV broadcasting and six years for sound broadcasting. Licence fees are set at ZAR70,000 for TV broadcasters and ZAR30,000 for sound broadcasting.
