MobiFon claims 100,000 3G customers

Romania’s mobile market leader MobiFon (Connex) says that it added 602,832 net subscribers in the quarter ending 31 December 2005, taking its total customer base to 6.13 million, up 25% year-on-year. Post-paid subscribers accounted for 36% of the total, compared to 34% a year before, whilst quarterly ARPU increased by 38% compared to the same period of 2004. Encouragingly for parent Vodafone Group, the number of users of Connex’s 3G network reached 97,322 at the end of December, and the company claims this figure has since risen above 100,000. Liliana Solomon, CEO of MobiFon, said: ‘This result makes us very optimistic about the future… I am happy to witness our customers’ strong interest in 3G services eight months since launching. We will continue to drive the market by further enhancing our 3G services portfolio and expanding the network coverage.’
